Guiding principles define a company’s self-image and outlines its desired future state. Through guiding principles and key focus areas, it provides orientation for achieving strategic goals. It therefore serves internally as a framework that guides employees in their daily decision-making and actions.

Alongside positioning, the corporate mission statement is a core part of a company’s identity.

How are guiding principles structured?

Guiding principles typically consists of the following components:

  • Purpose – what value do we create for society?
  • Vision – What do we want to achieve?
  • Mission – What drives us?
  • Strategic goals – How do we measure success? What moves us forward?
  • Areas for Development – What moves us forward? Where do we want to improve?
  • Values – How do we act?
